Social Player for iPhone and iPod touch is now available

Good news, everyone!

Our new app Social Player for iPhone and iPod touch is now available on the App Store.

The app is a music player with social networking features. It enables you to share the music you are listening to on your device with your friends on Facebook. It is very easy to use: You can browse and play your music in an intuitive way and share it by just pressing the central share button. Social Player then posts on your Facebook wall for your friends to see.

And it gets even better: The app tries to link your Facebook music messages to the iTunes Store, so that your friends can immediately listen to a preview with iTunes and get it if they like what they hear. How cool is that? And that is just the beginning. We have a lot of ideas where to go from this first version.

And this is how it looks like:

We developed the user interface together with schöne kommunikation. Dorothee came up with a nice graphic design and we are quite happy about the final outcome. One of our targets was that users of Facebook's iPhone app and Apple's iPod app should feel right at home.

We thank schöne kommunikation for the good work, our hardworking beta testers for useful criticism and suggestions and all attendees of the name finding poll.

Social Player 1.0 went right through Apple's approval process within one week and is now available on the App Store. Now go and get it!

We are eager to get some feedback from you.

it's a great app, but it would be nice if you had a actual facebook app it linke up with, and when you ran the iPhone app it linked up and constanty stayed updated with what you were listening to. because right now posting stuff manually and bugging your friends with constant updates and publishes sucks.

Thanks for the praise and your feedback!

We have a lot of cool ideas for Social Player. If we see that our customers like the app's general idea, we will develop it further and enhance it step by step. And right now it looks as if they like it very much. Eventually we will extend the existing Facebook app to allow the kind of functionality you suggest. Also note that your friends will not really be flooded by your Social Player updates as Facebook hides some of them per default if you send a lot of updates in a short time.

iTunes previews

Hi there! Again, thanks for the feedback. We cannot upload your music to Facebook directly, that would probably be illegal. Social Player instead searches for your music inside of iTunes and eventually links to a preview of the song. If the music you're listening to cannot be found in iTunes, there will be no preview. It works for us most of the time. Please note also that a link to the preview will only be generated if you publish your song as a story.

Play list control

I second the idea of a "live update" window on fb if that can be developed.

My BIG issue now is controlling my playlist. You need some type of internal manager to hold my list.

If I return to iTunes to add more songs, the list rebuilds with those additional files only, and loses the previous tracks in the list. The workaround I see now is to build a playlist for your app in iTunes, save, and sync.

A good example of how it *should* work is the on-the-fly playlist building in itunes' DJ function (skipping the auto-add tracks function.)

Finally, I don't know if you're tied to iTunes interface with this, but when looking at All Tracks, you need a name search, and an A-Z nav feature, same as the contact list has. Currently, to "quickly" find a track beginning with Z takes QUITE A BIT of scrolling, and makes it too easy to accidentally add tracks to the list while trying to scroll.

Playlist control

Hi! Thanks for your feedback. The music picker we are using is a standard component from Apple. It has minor drawbacks like the missing A-Z index, but it has a good performance and works well.

We already built our own interface that manages everything nicely, but the music access really takes a long time. For example, readig out all songs of a bigger music library can last minutes on a 3G. Nevertheless, we may add our own interface sometime in the future and make it optional, so that you can use the variant you like.

Right now we are working on a bigger update which soon should be complete. After that, we'll start to think about future enhancements.

I would like to have the option of just showing the song &/or band not from ALBUM as well . Can you do that . PLEASE

I put it on the list.

Hey, I'm having trouble

Hey, I'm having trouble reading your site in Flock (I can barely read the words). I've tried increasing the font size from the settings option but that didn't really help much. Any tips on what I should do? (Oh, and if it helps, I'm using Windows XP) - weight loss tips motivation

Thanks for the tip

We have checked our site against IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome. We'll try Flock and have a look...

Hi Henry, I've had the same trouble with Flock so just reverted back to using Chrome. It's not just this site that I've had the problem with to be honest so I don't think its anything wrong your end.

Thanks, Loz. - stopzilla review

Good to know, Loz. At least

Good to know, Loz. At least there is a nice choice of browsers to choose from nowadays. But you didn't miss much. Since we started Social Player's Facebook page as the central community, we ignored the blog a little bit. I will try to write some updates soon.
Regards Henry
